"The glowing metal fascinates me and the process from melted cu metal to final products is amazing, not at least as it is recyclable and help us generate energy in a sustainable way."

Get the inside story what it’s really like when you are ready with your studies and it is time for work. Marie Moses is sharing her story with us; why she chose the way she did and what she thinks about life today.
Why did you choose to study Industrial Engineering at the university in Freiberg?
Choosing university is one of the most important choices you make in life. Through this you will equip yourself for life, not solely for your own benefit but for the benefit of the whole community.
For me the choice was easy, as I like the combination of the economical and industrial part of science, and as the oldest mining university in the world (1765) was located “next door”; Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg.
I know that what is closest is not always the best, but in this case it was, as it is a small university and with the possibility to have a close contact with professors and supervisors.
Why did you choose to specialize in metal forming?
I started in 2011 with my bachelor degree and after 2 years I chose to specialize in metal forming, because I like to work with all metals and to take part of the whole process chain; from the raw material to the final product. As TUBAF is one of the few universities providing their students with this knowledge, this was also one of the reasons why I chose this university. These 3,5 years were followed by a master degree (1,5 years) in metal forming.
Where did you work after your studies?
I decided to do my doctorate after my studies and therefore I started working at the institute of metal forming with technology development of magnesium and aluminium alloys, giving lectures and supervision of students.
After being employed by the university for 4 years I wanted to go abroad and to find a work in the industry. My husband and I were both given the opportunity to go to Sweden and to work within the same company; Elcowire in Helsingborg.
Elcowire is a supplier to many clean energy infrastructure projects and Elcowire plays a key role in building a more sustainable society. The projects include the development of various interconnectors, something which forms an important part of the European Union’s vision for a greener and more unified electricity market.
Could you describe your daily business at Elcowire?
I am working as a process engineer in the technical department with the Southwire process/casting and rolling mill for cu wire rod. This means that I am working with the production process and product development. We are supporting the production team, finding solutions and always trying to reach a better and more efficient way of producing the best sustainable quality in a stable process.
As we all are consuming a lot of energy, I feel that I have an important mission together with my experienced and great colleagues – Our mission is to go forward finding new innovations and new solutions for the modern infrastructure at the samt time as we reduce our carbon footprint. I am happy that I started my work in Sweden, my colleagues are very friendly and helpful and I also like our “fika” (coffee break) when we sit together and talk.
