STUTTGART-ULM PROJECT, DEUTSCHE BAHN AG

A new construction line Wendlingen-Ulm (high-speed overhead contact line system of type Re 330):
Employees of Elcowire Rail GmbH Hettstedt provide support in assessing the installation technology used and in measuring the quality features of the CuMg0.5-AC-120 copper-magnesium contact wires supplied by Elcowire and installed by the Rail Power Systems GmbH.

This contact wire, which was originally developed in Hettstedt in 1994, is now used worldwide and is an essential component for high-speed contact lines with the highest demands on strength, reliability as well as product and installation quality.

The high-speed line is intended to cross the Swabian Alb at speeds of up to 330 km/h. Alongside Stuttgart 21, it is part of the Stuttgart-Ulm rail project.

VALTHERMO® OVERHEAD CONTACT LINE

Dresden’s DVB is the first tram operation applying the innovative Valthermo® alloy as messenger wire and contact wire in their overhead contact line system.
Valthermo benefits against hard drawn copper (Cu-ETP):
•>20% higher ampacity
•Reduced wear of contact wire
•Increased line availability, less maintenance
•Extended useful life
Significant CO2 and energy savings are possible with overhead contact lines made of Valthermo®.
